From the factory floor to the frontend

Mechanical engineer by training, software engineer by choice, maker by habit.

Hi, I’m Keith

I’m a frontend developer living in Dubuque, Iowa, right on the Mississippi. I build web applications for clients, and I care most about the parts people actually touch: pages that load fast, interfaces that make sense, and forms that don’t fight back.

My wife Marie and I love our family, and our best weekends usually involve traveling to see someone. You’ll find me hiking, cooking, gaming, or working on a new project.

The short version

I earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and started my career on factory floors. At Genie Industries I cut a manufacturing cycle from 126 minutes to 46. At Novinium I designed an automation project that saved $650K.

Along the way I kept writing small programs to make my own work easier, and eventually the programs became the work. In 2017 I started teaching myself to code through The Odin Project, building everything from a Caesar cipher to a command-line chess game in Ruby. A year later I joined Wolters Kluwer as a software engineer.

Since then

  • 2018–2021 · Wolters Kluwer. Led the migration of a legacy app to a new framework and delivered it a month early.
  • 2021–2022 · Wellbe. Automated content imports with Strapi, removing a developer’s worth of manual work, and built features in Ruby on Rails.
  • 2022–2024 · Eagle Point Software. As Agile Coach, took a team from no agile experience to full Scrum in under a year, cut production bugs by 40% with unit testing, and helped ship a learning library platform that reduced support calls by 35%.
  • 2024–2025 · Driftless Engineering Services. Founded my own consultancy building cloud tools for engineers on AWS, including a toolbox that saves clients 2+ hours per project.
  • 2025–2026 · Andersen Windows and Doors. Back on the factory floor as a Special Projects Engineer, leading next-generation door manufacturing processes and mentoring junior engineers.
  • 2026–now · CMHWorks. Frontend Engineer, building client applications.
